The following are a few books on prayer recommended by Pastor Larry Lyon:

With Christ in the School of Prayer by Andrew Murray – Certainly one of the most widely read classics on prayer. The 31 chapters of amazing insight and instruction related to prayer can be read as a daily devotional.

Prayer by Ole Hallesby – A personal favorite because Chapter 1, “What is Prayer” radically altered my approach to prayer and therefore changed my life. What more can I say??

The Kneeling Christian – A classic on the subject but written by “An Unknown Christian.” This anointed book deals with some of the tough questions on the subject of prayer and will definitely get believers on their knees.

How to Pray by R.A. Torrey – This small book contains 12 devotional-like chapters precisely addressing many key areas for effective prayer. Chapter 2, “Praying Unto God”, was another prayer life shaping chapter for me that I have never forgotten.

God’s Chosen Fast and Pray in the Spirit by Arthur Wallis – Two amazingly practical books on two difficult facets of prayer. Wallis’s scriptural insights are solid, bringing clarity to subjects that are easily confusing. Both are treasures on my bookshelf.

The Path of Prayer by Samuel Chadwick – I don’t know why all my favorite books are by dead guys, but this is a very good book on prayer by a young preacher who burned all of his old sermons after he discovered the power of the Holy Spirit.
