Lima – This coastal city was established as the capital of Peru by Spanish conquistador Franscisco Pizzaro in 1535. One third of the nations citizens live in Lima. A small team of 7 from the Calvary Chapel Corvallis Outreach Team are staying in Lima for the whole two weeks doing outreach in nearby communities and on the beach. Outreaches will include childrens ministry, drama and evangelism and soccer and surfing camps for youth.

[one last update, all together]The teams came back together in Lima on Monday and enjoyed a day of rest and sightseeing with a dinner out and time of worship that night. Tuesday morning the whole team gathered on a grassy cliff overlooking the ocean and the shoreline of Lima. Team members spent an hour or so in quiet reflection and then came together for a final time of worship. Adam exhorted the team from Phillipians chapter 3 to live with passion for Jesus Christ as they each prepare for life back in the states.
The team will be traveling all night from Lima to Houston, Texas and then on to Portland on Wednesday morning. Thank you for your faithful prayers.
Cornerstone SOM Director Adam Poole exhorts the team to finish strong as they reflect on all God has done in and through them the past two weeks

An email update from Brett Yoder:
Life in Peru is very good as we are at the surf camp and God is really working. The team here from Lima is tired, sun burned and blessed … very blessed. Sometimes we don’t feel like we are doing a whole lot, because we are mostly helping the kids surf, and speaking with them. Even still, they tell us what a blessing we are so that’s awesome. We are for sure learning a lot about the culture and some of the language (not much it seems. Haha). But God is for sure working in us and at this camp. Please keep praying for the kids and for us. We miss home very much but are very excited to see all the Lord is going to do. Thanks again for your blessing and prayers for this mission trip.
[2/23] Today we woke up and had a devotion. Jared and I slept in ‘cause we had a night shift last night from 4 to 6am. The night shifts were just to keep dogs, rats and people away from the camp. Kinda fun but again tiring. All the guys on our lima team helped. Some had 10pm to midnight, some 2am to 4am.
But after devotions we had a Bible study, which was in English, YES. Most the time it’s in Espanol with no translating, but this time we could actually understand, which was nice. After we had games together with our groups, then lunch, and then more free time. Most the time we help teach to surf, or we ourselves are taught to surf. But all in all it’s good fellowship. Tonight will be another study and worship. Tomorrow we will have a baptism, which we are excited for.

Today we woke back up in the happy hostel, the place that we call “our home that is very far away from home.” We woke up at 8:30 to find the same breakfast that we have been having every morning of our stay at the hostel. Last night we got back from Cañete a medium sized town with a park in the middle and the same brick/plaster buildings that everyone lives in. The poverty that we have been witnessing is incredible and has shocked all of us. We are so grateful to live in the Estados Unidos, but its also been good to be here in Peru because we have really felt the need for God. All of the guys on the team have got a little sick but our girls are troopers. Katherine and Whitney haven’t been sick yet and continue to amaze us with their love for the little children.
So at Noon or so we left Lima to go to the surf camp, which is about 15 min away from Cañete. We could have stayed the night there but we had to come back to our hostel in Lima to pick up a few more supplies. The surf camp is about 2 hours away from Lima by bus and when we got here we just got set up in our tents, ate and hit the water. The water is not like Oregon at all, very warm and very, very salty, yet very fun. We are enjoying ourselves and excited to see what else GOD is going to do. Hope all is well at home, too.
