Iquitos | Cajamarca | Lima | main Peru page

Cajamarca – Located in the northern highlands of Peru at 8,900 above sea level this city is very significant in Peru’s history. The establishment of Cajamarca can be traced back 3000 years and it is here that the great Incan Empire was conquered by a few hundred Spanish soldiers. A group of 13 from Calvary Chapel Corvallis Team will join missionary Amanda Eggert assisting a young Peruvian pastor and his wife who have established a church in Cajamarca. *Some information taken from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[one last update, all together]

The teams came back together in Lima on Monday and enjoyed a day of rest and sightseeing with a dinner out and time of worship that night. Tuesday morning the whole team gathered on a grassy cliff overlooking the ocean and the shoreline of Lima. Team members spent an hour or so in quiet reflection and then came together for a final time of worship. Adam exhorted the team from Phillipians chapter 3 to live with passion for Jesus Christ as they each prepare for life back in the states.

The team will be traveling all night from Lima to Houston, Texas and then on to Portland on Wednesday morning. Thank you for your faithful prayers.

Cornerstone SOM Director Adam Poole exhorts the team to finish strong as they reflect on all God has done in and through them the past two weeks

An email update from Missions Pastor Larry Lyon:

Hey friends, thank you for all the prayers. It has been a tremendous time here in Cajamarca. I got a chance to come into the email place and say hi real quick. I will be praying for Ryan this weekend. Know all about ministering when your not feeling well. I will be speaking tomorrow myself and sure would covet prayers. It should be a pretty full house. Of course it is literally a house… :)

God has really used our weakness for His glory. I told the team this morning in devotions that this was the sickest team I had ever been part of … they knew what I meant. It is also one of the best teams and outreaches I have been part of. A real privilege. When talking about the 14 hour return bus ride that is coming up tomorrow Nolan Roberts said he would gladly throw up again for the privilege of having been here. That really ministered to me. We also will have the privilege of traveling back to Lima with the medical team that is here for just a few days. The team has really enjoyed interacting and participating with them in outreach and medical clinics. We will be doing that again this afternoon. Our last full day of outreach here in Cajamarca.

Friday the team went back up to the mountains to entertain kids and help translate for a medical team that came from CC Melbourne, Florida.

Anna read stories in Spanish to the mountain women and their kids for two hours!

Emily led a group of boys and girls jumping and sitting as they sang the song Allelujah Praise the Lord!

Adam, Diago, and Larry stop for a rest during our hour hike up the Andes mountains to a small village

Nolan racing to score a goal during our futbol match: gringos vs. peruvian children from the small village

Larry saving a goal. The view was amazing, but the altitude definitely got to us. The final score was gringos 1, peruvian kids 3

Jordan Director and Amanda share with the children in the village about Jesus. The kids loved playing with us and hearing about Jesus. We are planning on returning to the village again.

An insightful email update from missions Pastor Larry Lyon:

Last night (Tuesday) in the plaza was one of the most dramatic responses to the gospel I have seen on the streets. The people here are incredibly open and responsive. I understand why Amanda cries when she talks about it. After the dramas, testimonies, and
preaching was over we spent two hours just talking to groups of people who kept standing around and the groups kept changing with some leaving while new people would stop and begin listening. I watched Amanda pour out her heart non-stop to a group that was never smaller than 8 to ten people.

My daughter Jody helped lead 2 or 3 guys to the Lord, not because she is an evangelist, but because they were literally standing in line to pray with someone and Jody was one of a handful of translators available. Everyone who could habla Espanol was doing it with someone.

Adam and I were amazed… both of us were pretty tired after a brutal 14 hour bus ride through the Andes. (Though it was a very nice bus, I can’t say it was all that pleasant of a ride even before the 4 hours in the mountains.) Anyway we didn’t really feel like hitting the streets but were so energized by the experience it really taught us something about the power of sharing the gospel.

February 20

Greetings from Cajamarca! Today was our first day of outreach in the city. We are staying at the Calvary Chapel in Cajamarca, which as doubles as Pastor Diago’s and his wife Patty’s home.

Emily and Heidi enjoying our chicken and rice dinner on our 14 hour bus ride to Cajamarca

This is our team worshiping and having our morning devotions together in the courtyard at the church. God revealed His desire for us to be prayer worries during out time in Cajamarca. This is where the power of the Lord is and where the battle is won in the spiritual rhelm.

Amanda is teaching Nolan “Holy Fire” in Spanish so we can worship to it during our outreaches

Anna, Nolan, Emily, Alicia, and Rodney perform the drama “Redeemer” during our first night of outreach in a nearby plaza. Many people were interested in what we were doing and talked to us for hours about Jesus. We were all very encouraged—and a little cold—after our time in the plaza.

Oscar and Rodney are quickly becoming good friends; here they play the guitar together

Anna being adventurous and eating a whole plate of raw sea food, including octopus and clams, at lunch after church in Lima before we left for Cajamarca
