The country:
Peru is home to western coastal plains, high rugged Andes Mountains, and lowland jungle in the Amazon Basin. Beautiful and astounding ruins from the Pre-Colombian Inca empire reveal what life was like before Spanish rule in 1533. The population of Peru is around 28 million. Over half live below the poverty line. Roman Catholicism is the major religion. The primary languages of Peru are Spanish, Quechua, and a large number of Amazonian languages (jungle). Peru suffers from widespread unemployment. Colombia & Peru grow & produce the world´s supply of cocaine.
Despite these things, Peru is a beautiful and amazing country with people open to hearing about Jesus. It is a ripe harvestfield.

The city:
Lima is known as the cultural and business center of Peru. Though it is a large city, it feels more like a cluster of small towns. Lima is in the coastal desert. A striking feature of Lima is how diverse the areas are. One moment you are in a bustling comercial area and the next, a shantytown. Though terrorism and insurgent guerilla groups of the 1980s- early 1990s have been curbed, the memory is still strong in the minds of the residents. Security guards can be found on most street corners, high electric fencing
protects middle & upper class homes. Counterfeit money and theft are rampant problems.

Ministry profile:
Amanda was saved when she was 17 years old, and entered Oregon State University with a growing desire to become a missionary somewhere in Latin America. She graduated from OSU in 2004 with a degree in Political Science, fluency in Spanish, and a burning desire for Missions.

Her desire to attend Bible College in a Spanish speaking country led her to the Calvary Chapel Bible College in Lima, Peru. She soon found herself in love with the people of Peru and involved in numerous fruitful ministries. Amanda now serves as the Dean of Women at the Bible College, is involved with children´s outreach ministry in the park, coordinates visiting mission teams, and goes to visit jungle villages as often as she can!
